Mother Arrested For Allegedly Driving Drunk With Her Toddler

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A mother is behind bars after getting into a crash after she was allegedly driving drunk with her three year old son in Santa Barbara.

Police arrested 24-year-old Kate Walters after she crashed into a lamp post near State Street and Broadmoor Plaza on Monday.

She was transported to the hospital with her son, who had multiple injuries, including a broken neck.

Walters was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on $100,000 bail on DUI and child endangerment charges.

Caltrans Announces Study Review Availability For Gaviota Realignment

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Caltrans has announced the public can review a Mitigated Negative Declaration/Initial Study for a safety project to realign the existing compound curve on northbound U.S. Highway 101 with a single radius curve south of the rest areas in Gaviota.

The public may review the study beginning Wednesday, May 22 at the following locations:

Veterans to Get More Help from the U.S. Small Business Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Small Business Administration is taking steps to help veterans borrow money to start businesses.

According to the SBA in a release: The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is announcing today the SBA Veteran Pledge Initiative, a commitment by its top national, regional and community lenders to collectively increase their lending activity to veterans by five percent per year for the next five years.

Oftentimes, veterans face challenges in raising capital or have trouble receiving a conventional loan. With the support of SBA's top 20 national lending partners, and approximately 100 additional regional and community lending partners across the United States, SBA expects to assist an additional 2,000 veterans obtain loans to start or expand small businesses by increasing lending by $475 million over the next five years.

Los Olivos, Santa Barbara County, California – St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos invites the community to participate in a special Evensong service on Sunday, June 16, 20123 at 5:00 p.m. Singers are being invited to join the choir and the public is invited to attend the service.  Evensong is a vocal version of a traditional Evening Prayer service.  According to St. Mark’s Evensong coordinator Brooks Firestone, “There are no auditions for singers to join in this Evensong, but a background in choir singing will be helpful. Any adult with some singing experience is invited to come to the church at 2:00 p.m.

According to the group, "Hospice of San Luis Obispo" offers support groups that meet to provide emotional support and education about grief and life threatening illnesses. Support group meetings are offered according to the needs of the community. Groups are offered without charge.

SB Foundation To Award Record $8.1 Million In Scholarships

SB Foundation To Award Record $8.1 Million In Scholarships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A record $8.1 million in scholarship money will be awarded this Wednesday to thousands of Santa Barbara County students through the Santa Barbara Foundation. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at the First Christian Church in Santa Maria from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

The money awarded will help recipients attend college, vocational school, graduate school, and medical school. For more information, see story below.
